Visiting team from Calgary defeat Sounders U-23 at home

The Sounders U-23 played the Calgary Foothills FC today at home in Sunset Chevrolet in a 2-0 defeat to the visiting team. An own goal and a goal from Sergio Camargo manage to give Foothills FC the 3 points while on the road.

After a few set-pieces, Calgary in the 25th minute finally was able to gain a goal. Nathan Aune, in the attempt to clear the ball out with his head, accidentally manages to push the ball far post leaving Sounders U-23 goalkeeper Ben Willis no chance to make a save. Calgary led 1-0.

In the 52nd minute, a Sounders turnover led to a Foothills counter-attack where Camargo picked it up and dribbles the ball down the right side and slots it home towards second post, beating the Sounders keeper Willis.

We also had a special appearance, Sumner’s very own 4A SPSL champions, Sumner High boys’ soccer team. On top of being undefeated (8-0) at home, they made school history by making a final four appearance and placing third in state in the 4A division! Congratulations again gentlemen.

Sounders are now 1-2-2 in league as they get ready to face off against their rivals the Portland Timbers U-23. Timbers sit below the Sounders with just 4 points as Sounders go into the matchup with 5 points. The match will be played in Oregon at McCulloch stadium at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, June 5th.
