The Sounders U23 team traveled north on June 10th to face the upstart TSS Rovers in an important PDL Northwest Division game. TSS Rovers had won the past three and found themselves in a tie with Calgary Foothills for the top spot in the PDL Northwest Division standings.
An early TSS Rovers Goal from Zack Verhoven put the home side up 1-0 but the Sounders U23 peppered the TSS Rovers goal with Santiago Patino and Niklas Brodacki narrowly missing chances. In firm control of possession, the Sounders U23 hit the back of the net finally as Patino headed the ball over the onrushing Andrew Hicks in the TSS net. Cazz Warren would then match a great strike by Verhoven with one of his own, dribbling inside and smashing it past Hicks to take the game in halftime at 2-1 for the Sounders U23.
The second half would see much of the same with TSS Rovers starting to push forward to equalize. A good save from Akili Kasim then led to the Sounders U23 getting possession of the ball again. The insertion of Hayden Criollo would pay immediate dividends as Criollo turned and dribbled beyond the TSS Rovers defense and cut the ball back to the driving Patino who ripped another goal into the net to make the game 3-1. More chances would come for the Sounders U23 team but the final score remained 3-1.
With the win, the Sounders U23 pulled themselves back into the discussion and face a tough midweek home match against division leading Calgary Foothills at Sunset Stadium in Sumner. Game time is 7:30pm and Calgary head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. will have his group ready as they prepare for the second half of the season and the impending 2019 CPL season which many of these Calgary Foothills players are hoping to make the jump to professional soccer with.
