Sunday showdown against Lane United yields one point for Sounders U-23 with a 3-3 draw.


SUMNER, WA-

The Sounders U-23 hosted Lane United in an ending thriller where the Sounders were able to seal two late goals to secure a tough point against the visiting side. Darren Sawatzky with the key substitute, Hugo Delhommelle, who managed to score and assist when he came onto the pitch.

In the 24th min on a counter, Jamael Cox grabs the ball and dribbles it straight at the defense pushing them to the 18-yard line where he smacks it into the bottom right corner with his left foot putting the Sounders up one.

Right before the half in the 41st min, a quick long ball from the defense to the Lane United striker, Tony Macchione, lobbed through leaving Macchione on a breakaway. Sounders keeper, Ben Willis, came out in an attempt to close off his angle but Macchione with a solid chip beats Willis.

The Sounders dominated early in the second half but it was a corner kick in the 59th minute to far post where Sam Engle got up and finished it with power into goal. Lane United led 2-1.

Every counter Lane United had looked dangerous and in the 72nd minute the counter paid off. United’s Gloire Amanada drifts out to the right where he finds enough space and dribbles it at goal and finishes it low far post. Lane United lead grew to 3-1.

Hugo Delhommelle in the 86th minute used his creativity to assist Niklas Brodacki on a goal. Delhommelle sees Brodacki making a run and beats the defense with a simple chip that Brodacki was able to just scrape into the back of the net and leaving the United keeper defenseless. Sounders were still down 2-3.

Late in the 90th minute, Eddie Na dribbles into the box and cuts to the inside where he gets brought down by a United defender. The referee had signaled for a PK and Hugo steps up and gives Sounders their third goal in stoppage time.

Sounders complete the comeback from being 3-1 to tying the game 3-3 within the final 5 minutes of the match. They managed to gain a point but will look to steal 3 points when they are on the road against Portland Timbers U23. The match will be at McCulloch Stadium this Friday, June 22nd, at 7 PM.
