Tacoma, WA. – The PDL Western Conference Champion Sounders U-23 are headed to London, Ontario for the PDL national semi-final. Their opponents are the Central Conference Champion, Forest City London. The match will be held at FC London’s home field, German Canadian Club, on Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. EST (4:30 p.m., PST).
Saturday night in Ontario, the road-warrior Sounders U-23 will face an upset minded FC London side, once again away from their home turf in Tacoma.
London finished second in the Great Lakes Division of the Central Conference, qualifying them to play in the Central Conference playoffs. The team from London, Ontario went on the road and completed an improbable sweep over both division champions from the Central Conference. They defeated the Thunder Bay Chill Saturday 1-0, and then took down the Michigan Bucks 2-1 Sunday to march on to the national final four.
The winner of Saturday’s match will move on to the national title game next weekend at a site yet to be determined. They will play the winner of the other semi-final match when the Carolina Dynamo host Orlando City U-23.
The Sounders U-23 advanced past the conference championship stage of the PDL playoffs last weekend with two victories on back-to-back days. On Saturday evening in Ventura, CA, they defeated the Southwest division runner up, FC Tucson 2-1. The following evening the Sounders U-23 took out the Southwest division champion, and Western Conference final four hosts, Ventura County Fusion 2-0.
Including their recent playoff successes, the Sounders U-23 have now won nine matches in a row. Their last loss was suffered back on June 15th when they fell to the 2011 PDL national champion Kitsap Pumas. During the nine victories, six of them have come on the road, and the Sounders U-23 have outscored their opponents 25 goals to seven. Two more victories, and the Sounders U-23 will be the national champions.
