Schweitzer and Reinikka come home for the summer
Sounders FC home grown players Jordan Schweitzer and Matt Reinikka return to Washington this summer to play for the Sounders U23 team. Schweitzer returns after playing last summer and Reinikka comes home after playing the fall at Davidson University.
Jordan Schweitzer played for the Sounders Academy after captaining the Washington Youth Soccer EPD ‘94 team. Schweitzer started all 16 games for the University of Denver in 2014 garnering All Summit First Team honors for the second consecutive year. Schweitzer has trained with the Sounders FC first team for the past two summers.
Matt Reinikka returns to Washington after playing at Davidson University this fall where his team finished with a 10-2-6 record. Reinikka, a freshman, ended the season with the most minutes played with a total of 1708 minutes. An Atlantic 10 All Rookie Team selection, Reinikka is also a veteran of the Sounders Academy and the Washington Youth Soccer EPD program where he was a captain for both programs.
“Both Jordan and Matt represent quality players out of our Sounders Academy program. Both players are incredible young men and their careers already speak for themselves. Jordan will help run the midfield and Matt will help anchor the back line for our team,” says Darren Sawatzky, Sounders U23 Head Coach.
Both players will arrive in Washington after their college spring semesters end to begin the PDL season in May. Tickets for Sounders U23 games can be purchased at www.soundersu23.com.
